What is the current state of the Mac OS X build?

Post by Haimi » 2011-12-01, 19:36

Hi there,

I tried to fit the dependencies on mac using macports (worked like a charm) but as I am not used to Scons, I repeatedly failed building Cafu on my Mac. I can't even pass the check for libpng (which I definitively have installed).

Any Ideas or states of development where I can carry on?

Thanks,
Haimi

Hi Haimi,

unfortunately, our Mac OS X port is still not ready, mostly because of lack of (permanent) access to a Mac system. I use several combinations of Windows and Linux every day, but have at this time no Mac that I could use regularly to complete the port.

I very much hope that that will change in the future, and would happily accept any patches improving the situation, but at the moment, there is not much I can do to provide immediate help.
:sorry:
Best regards,
Carsten

How about hackintosh?
You can also get MacOS running in a VM, barely works though.

Unfortunately, that's not an option for us.

If you're saying it's not an option for legal reasons, if you buy the copy of OSX that you then patch and install it is perfectly legal.
The software patched is OSS licensed, thus Apple has no say over what you do to it.

Ok, thanks for the info.

I might however just buy a Mac mini instead, especially because I just got a new monitor that can toggle two distinct video inputs inclusive attached USB devices/keyboard/mouse. Maybe I'll do this even this year. :-)

2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
2GB RAM
500GB HDD
Intel HD Graphics 3000
$599.00

2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
4GB RAM
500GB HDD
AMD Radeon HD 6630M
$799.00

Steep price for the specs, the price of small.
Shoebox sized ITX computers with powerful hardware are fun things, cost nearly as much though.
