Re: Real-Time Skybox?
Hi morvayn :) Whenever it comes to dynamic elements you have to make sure to clearly state your term of "dynamic". As i would understand it, it means to be able to fully control its features at any given time. As for a sky system you also have to make sure to tell what your idea here is. Is the sun ...

Re: questions about cafu gui editor
Hi there and welcome I am interested, how powerfull cafu gui editor is? Can i make gui like in mass effect 1/2/3 or dead space 1/2? Does inventory management count as gui? (menu that contains items, armors, weapons...) In general every system has a basic functionality , but comparing this with a spe...

Re: Creating Texture Maps
Hi I'd really love to eventually transfer this wealth of information into a dedicated page in our Wiki, so that it is less fragmented, more prominently visible, and easier to find. Agreed how do you want us to do this ? What structure is it relying on ? That would be a part besides the actual Cafu c...

Re: Refraction for CaLight
I agree with Scott I thought about realism including underwater caustics and refraction in models with "Glass" Texture. Usually caustics are just a kind top down projected animated texture (as this requires a fast response real calculation is out of the question) Some texture generators can produce ...

Re: Realistic water
Hi guys Water in general can be a pretty complicated task. I would keep things short and refer to your ideas above :) Water surface waving like on wind Can be done using either real vertex shader based displacement (using screenspace grid deformation) or with use of some fancy pixel shader displacem...

Re: Creating Texture Maps
Hi there :) i guess the most important things are already mentioned. 2D conversion is what it is: a conversion while 3D yields more accurate results but takes more time to setup and could create more errors if done wrong. so in many cases a 2D conversion will still be good in many cases or add detai...

Software List - Modeling
Hi, in order to have a single list rather than few threads, here is our list of different 3D modeling packages. We try to update the list whenever new stuff appears, so every user can share new links and impressions, and we will add them to the list. We focus more on indy style development which usu...

Re: Messiah Studio 5 Pro Edition limited offer
Would you mind adding this information to one of the relevant threads listed at http://www.cafu.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=856 (or alternatively directly to that thread)? Then we'd have everything in one place, for future reference etc. No but wouldn't it be more practical to put the relevan...

Re: Messiah Studio 5 Pro Edition limited offer
Hehe, this is looking good -- I just got a pro edition, even if only for "upgrading" my personal learning level regarding modelling! :-) Be careful, this application is intended for animator s and rigger . It is NOT software for modeling and does not offer any of these requirements. But it will off...

Re: Need some little help :)
Hi, and welcome ;) The term "brush" is unreal ed specific, please be aware of that, instead use more wide spread terms like "mesh", or "model" when referring to static or animated objects. A brush in unreal is the underlying base geometrie used for BSP calculation. Don't want to be picky but it's im...

Re: Happy New Year!
Im adding my thoughts to this: First of all the model editor will act as central tool to combine and manage asset components (mesh, textur, shader, animation file, scripts) into a native, internal cafu format. Regardless of which format it would be, it should transport relevant information from a 3d...

Re: Found a good model creating/editing software.
I would like to add some information to this :) Carsten is right, be careful with the term "model editor/creator" as this is commonly a tool for tweaking prefabs, assets , models for the same reason. Importing a static model is quite simple, but adding animation and connecting scripts with attribute...

Re: Good texture creator (free)
Be aware that the thread is almost 6 years old, thus most apps changed or are completly abandoned ! Xnormal might be the best choice, since its free and offers quite a lot of features (with a rather complicated interface, but its free) http://www.xnormal.net Mapzone offers a nice wide variety of noi...

Re: Few Quick Questions
There is no build in limit, most cards can handle up to 8k sized textures, but be careful not to exceed the card based ram.
Same goes for polycount limit, .obj can handle as much polygons as your computer can handle. Todays limits are mostly based on hardware not software
